The 10th annual Palm Beach International Film Festival opens this week with a showcase of 23 foreign film premieres, and over 42 U.S. premieres. The eight day festival runs from April 14th through the 21st with various screening at various locations. Most people think of Palm Beach County solely as the turf to those mogul Big-time spenders, and not pretenders like Tommy Hilfiger. But a major contemporary film festival like the PBIFF is challenging this preconception. To simply list the cultural locale found in Palm Beach is pointless. Every community has a performing arts center, a regional orchestra and an art museum, which is no real measure of cultural status on a national level. However, the PBIFF consistently strives to be amongst the world's top film festivals. Organizers of the festival say it's a credible contender with its growing repute based on the quality of films being submitted and the increasing amount of recognition received. With over 300 filmmakers in attendance last year, and the selling out of two hotels already this year, the festival promises to continue to draw publicity. Highlighting this year's festival is the 10th Anniversary Birthday Bash on Sunday April 17th at 6 PM at the Mizner Park Amphitheatre in Boca Raton. The bash is free and open to the public. The night begins with a concert "Tribute to the Movies", followed by a birthday cake for all. The main event is a special presentation of the classic comic horror "Young Frankenstein", from Mel Brooks. The film will feature an appearance by the monster himself, "Everybody Loves Raymond's" Peter Boyle. For more information and a complete listing of this years featured line up, check out the official web sitehttp://www.pbifilmfest.org/index.asp |
