Ninth Annual Miami Latin Film Festival

Break out the popcorn and cohelo suave for the ninth annual installment of the Miami Latin Film Festival, which starts this weekend. The festival will be taking place at the AMC Theater CocoWalk in Coconut Grove, and will run through April 24th. The festival's coordinators stayed true to its latin roots by including films from all the major Spanish speaking countries, but also managed to include films from Brazil, France, and Italy to its itinerary of over 40 features. The majority of the films showcased will be making their South Florida debuts, and 15 will be in competition for the coveted Golden Egret award, which is the Hialeah equivalent of the Oscar.Early this week I visited the festival's official website, and found it as useful as flavored toilet paper. The home page has a single paragraph about the entire festival, and although I found the film descriptions very informative, the site provided no insight whatsoever, in determining which films were worth catching in this year's line up. If you pick up a copy of the Miami New Times this weekend you'll find an article titled "The Good, the Bad, and the Latin", which highlights about a half dozen of this year's films.Tickets for all films will be $10 A piece. For a very detailed description of the featured films, along with their show times, check out the official website at http://www.hispanicfilm.com/en/
