On Tuesday April 26, 2005, the non-profit program "Now Taste This!" will be hosting a poetry reading, as well as a silent auction benefiting the Florida Center for the Literary Arts at Miami-Dade College.Originally conceptualized in 1997 by poet and writer Jen Karetnick, the program pairs both popular local poets and restaurants to create "poets' menus", which are composed and signed by both poet and chef to be presented to customers who partake from the featured menu. The participating local restaurants featured in this years project include, Azul, Cacao, Chef Allen, Maroosh Mediterranean Restaurant, Mosaico, and North One 10 among many others. The participating local poets reading will include, Diana Abu-Jaber, Richard Blanco, Howard Camner, Nick Carbo, John Dufresne, Denise Duhamel, Michael Hettich, Campbell McGrath, Ricardo Pau-Llosa and Maureen Seaton. In the name of a noble cause, 10% of the proceeds will go to the Center for the Literary Arts located at the Miami Dade College campus in Downtown Miami. The goal of the Literary Center is to reach out to young campus goers for the advancement and appreciation of the literary arts. So for just this reason, if you fancy poetry, food, wine or all of the above, and "love da kids" like trick daddy, come out, celebrate, and donate. The event is free and open to the public and takes place at 7 p.m. at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus at 300 N.E. Second Ave., Building 3 on the 5th floor Terrace.
