Promising to be one of the best movies of the summer, Batman Begins, is the latest juicy installment serving as a prequel to all previously released big budget Hollywood Batman films. Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel facelift, "Batman Year One", the film's storyline takes the audience back to Bruce Wayne's initial conception of Batman, and the hardships encountered of a novice caped crusader. In the film, a young rich Bruce Wayne who's still not quite at peace with his parents' murder travels the world seeking the skills to fight crime and turn fear against those who threaten the innocent. After his training with the martial arts expert Ras Al Ghul and his discovery of his alter-ego, the young man returns to Gotham taking to the streets and partaking in some good old fashioned criminal ass kicking. The talents of the cast and director are the main reason people are sitting up to take notice of what most would assume to be a boring overdone comic book movie. To begin, the film is directed by the genius of Christopher Nolan, director of one of my all time favorite films, "Memento". Due to the smorgasbord of incredible actors in the cast I will be naming just those with significant roles in the film. Playing the young Bruce Wayne/Batman is the quiet yet strong Christian Bale who was born for the role. Included in the cast is Michael Caine, who plays the sturdy British butler "Alfred". Ken Watanabe, of the Last Samurai, plays the martial arts master who trains Wayne, "Ras Al Ghul". Liam Neeson plays "Henri Ducard", another one of Bruce Wayne's mentors. Morgan Freeman plays Lucious Fox, the well respected businessman who helps run Wayne Enterprises while Batman is out fighting crime. Gary Oldman plays "Lt. James Gordon', who later becomes one of Batman's allies and the chief police of Gotham City. Katie Holmes plays the assistant district attorney, "Rachael Dawes". Finally, British pretty boy Cillian Murphy plays Dr. Jonathan Crane, whose alter ego is the villain "The Scarecrow. Murphy starred as the main character in the zombie flick, "28 days later". Keep an eye out for this latest installment of the Batman saga, which is set to release nationwide June 17, 2005. Finding information on this movie is relatively difficult, as most movie sources didn't even have a storyline description. |
