Permalink | Comments (0) | RSS

A shortlist has been announced for the Callum Macdonald Memorial Award. The award, which is presented by the National library of Scotland, is one of the most coveted prizes in Scotland. It was created back in 2001 to recognize the skills of Scottish "pamphlet" poets and to encourage the preservation of printed material in this age of online publishing. This year there were a grand total of 51 entries, the most ever received for this award, but that number has been cut down to six for the shortlist. Here is a list of the finalists:-Sheena Blackhall (Wizard o the North: Poems in Scots for Halflins)-Jim Carruth (Bovine Pastoral) -James Knox Whittet (Seven poems for engraved fishermen)-Gill McConnell (Garden Party)-Hamish Whyte (Passage/An Pasaiste by James McGonigal)-Richard Medrington (The Word of Dog)The winner will be announced later today (6pm). We will publish the full text of the winning poem if we can get our hands on it, so stay tuned…
