Fete de la Musique hits Brickell Avenue

On Tuesday June 21, the French Consulate in Miami/Cultural Services and Mary Brickell Village will be hosting a free concert event titled "Fête de la Musique."

Originating in Paris in the summer of 1982, Fete de la Musique is a global celebration held each year on the summer solstice to welcome the season with music. Now a major event, Fête is observed in most major cities throughout the five continents including Miami, San Francisco, New York, Manila, Rio, Bogotá, and most of Africa. The festival aims to showcase innovative trends in traditional and world-music. The concerts, which are always free, range from individual block parties to massive carnivals and all-day extravaganzas in open fields and stadiums.

This year's event will be held at the future site of Mary Brickell Village, a condominium shopping mall development currently under construction, and will mark the first ever joint production between the Miami Performing Arts Center (MPAC) and the Rhythm Foundation.

Headlining the year's event is Ojos de Brujo. At the core of the new mestizo music scene in Spain, Ojos de Brujo fuse flamenco's powerful rhythms and passionate vocals with hip hop, funk, the DIY-spirit of punk, along with other global music sounds such as - reggae, hindi, Arabic, AfroLatino, raga, and electronica to create a blend of music labeled "hiphop flamenkillo."

Below I have attached the complete musical line up for the day along with the complete list of artist participating in the gallery exhibits.
