In the afterglow of the recent terrorist attacks in London, talk of the first ever Hollywood productions based on the 9/11 attacks are circulating about.
A news release on July 9, by Paramount Pictures officially confirmed one such project, the company added that the film would star Nicholas Cage and feature Oliver Stone as director. The presently untitled movie tells the story of retired detective William Jimeno and Sgt. John McLoughlin, who were caught in the rubble for several hours before being rescued.
Back in February, rival studio Columbia Pictures, a unit of Sony Corp, announced that it had obtained screen rights to "102 Minutes." The film would be based on a book by the same title, which was written by a couple of New York Times reporters, who recount the events between the impact of the first hijacked airliner and the collapse of the first tower. At this point, no director or actors have been mentioned by Columbia, but according to the Daily Variety, the company confirmed that a first script draft by Billy Ray, writer and director behind "Shattered Glass," was being considered.
I am guessing that all this hype has led to the opening of a door for T.V. mini-series movies, as ABC is planning a project based on the "9/11 Commission Report," NBC recently pulled out of a similar project, good idea guys. Everybody knows that Hollywood gets away with a lot more, plus how can you top the Stone – Cage duo. |
