Lil Kim Incarcerated

Kimberly Jones, who is most well known as Lil Kim (or Queen Bee), was sentenced to one year and one day in prison today for lying to a grand jury. A crime which is, in many manners, similar to the crime Marta Stewart had committed and received half the sentence time for.

Sources say Ms. Jones was originally facing up to 33 months for an incident which reportedly occurred between Lil Kim, Capone-N-Noreaga, Lil Cease, Foxy Brown and several others, outside of New York's Hot 97 radio station. A shooting took place after an altercation regarding the song "Bang-Bang" in which Lil Kim is defamed by Foxy Brown.

Kim was convicted in March of conspiracy and perjury. The six charges held a potential maximum sentence of five years apiece.

The Grammy winning artist implored the court to show leniency in the face of her admittance.

"I testified falsely to the grand jury and during the trial… at the time, I thought it was the right thing to do. Now I know it was wrong," Said Kim.

U.S. District Judge Gerard Lynch stated his concern over the comparison which some may make between Stewart and Kim. The judge was quoted as saying that the reason for her sentence was her trying to protect people in "unquestionably a more serious case." The Judge went on to state that taking into consideration the murder of Hip-Hop icon Tupac Shakur, gunned down in '96, Kim was "…sending that message that telling the truth has an important value. Going to jail to protect violent men with guns is not heroic."

Lil Kim is expected to begin her sentence in September.
