Film News: The Island Movie
Co-produced by DreamWorks Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, and directed by Michael Bay, The Island promises to be a high energy science fiction film with a star studded cast.
Although critics and audiences alike didn't exactly love most of Michael Bay's recent films, his salvation may come from The Island, which contains the kind of recipe that's like instant cake mix for a major box office success. Among a few names in the cast that you may recognize are Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, and Steve Buscemi.
In the film (McGregor) plays Lincoln Six-Echo who lives in the bleak mid-21st century setting of contained utopian facility. Along with the rest of the citizenry inhabiting this 1984 like controlled environment, Lincoln dreams of being chosen to live on The Island (the last supposedly untainted place on the planet).
However, he quickly discovers that his entire existence is a lie, and that his death is more valuable to his subliminal masters than his life is. In a last ditch effort, he and his incredibly hot neighbor named Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson) try to escape to the unknown outside world. All the mean while, the chiefs of the institute that once housed them are in an endless pursuit to hunt them down.
The Island opens in theaters nation wide on July 22. |
