Opening tonight, August 4, 2005, and running through September 30, the institute for Cuban American studies at the University of Miami also known as "Casa Bacardi", will be hosting a new exhibit titled "Cuban Women of the 40's and 50's- A Photographers Perspective."
The new exhibition will feature seventy five never-before-seen black and white vintage photographs from Cuban-born photographer Leo Carbajal. The exhibit takes a look at women's fashion trends in Cuba during the mid 20th century.
The opening reception will begin at 7pm and will include music by Zenaida Manfugas during one of her final recording sessions in which she plays incredible piano pieces composed by Lecouna. There will also be a slide show of large format landscapes and architecture, as well as a fashion exhibition by Wit & Style Chic Boutique titled "Classic Elegance."
Casa Bacardi is known for showcasing local artists in a casual environment. The exhibit as well as the opening reception is sure to be a formidable show. As a Miami born Cuban descendent I am happy to know that our culture is preserved through the efforts of Casa Bacardi and the University of Miami. |
