Chris Penn found dead in Santa Monica apartment

Hollywood lost one of one of its wittiest and grittiest on Tuesday when actor Chris Penn was found dead in a Santa Monica apartment. Police were the first to find the 43-year-old brother of Oscar Award Winner Sean Penn, and they have already ruled out the possibility of foul play. The cause of death has not been determined as of yet.

Fans of Chris Penn remember him from his roll as friendly gangster Eddie Cabot in Reservoir Dogs or from his hilarious caricature of belligerent police detective Nicky Dimes in True Romance. More recently, he had a supporting role in 2004's Starskey & Hutch and was also the voice officer Eddie Pulaski in the video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."

Penn's strong screen presence and his matter-of-fact attitude lent itself to playing "tough guy" rolls in gritty action flicks, but he had an acting sensibility that rivaled that of his more famous brother Sean. Most movie aficionados that have seen his work will attest to his talent and remember at least one or two classic scenes in which he participated.

The Penn family released a statement confirming his death and asking for privacy as they greave for their loss.
