Provoked could be a stepping stone for Aishwarya Rai

Remember the name.

Bollywood actress, Aishwarya Rai, could quickly become a mainstream film star based on her portrayal as a battered wife in the critically acclaimed film Provoked. The film has already premiered at Cannes and was also featured in the much less prominent IIFA ceremony in Dubai.

In Provoked Rai plays the role of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, a Punjabi woman married to an Indian in the UK. Kiranjit was a victim of domestic violence and suffered torture at the hands of her husband for ten years before killing him. The courts in Britain first sentenced her to life imprisonment, but later reprieved the punishment. The film is based on a true story.

Up until this point, Aishwarya Rai has stuck to her Bollywood roots. However, with this latest role in what has become a critically acclaimed film, she might be ready to crossover into the Hollywood scene.

If she wants to that is...

I look foward to seeing this film, but I am skeptic about Ash's acting. She's a pretty face, but I doubt she can carry a movie as serious as this.

People have a tendency to underestimate Ash, mainly becuase of her beauty, but this movie will prove her credentials. Earlier Hum Dil De chuke Sanam, Choker bali etc had shown her Talent. Recently her BO results have been poor, but Provked will bring her back with a bang.

People have a tendency to underestimate Ash because of her beauty, they assume that her acting is bad. Isn't it possible to be beautiful and be a good actress. First watch the film then comment on the acting. If any of you have seen the Mistress of Spices, even though the movie didn't do to well, I certainly wouldn't call her acting in that film below average.

I would like to say a few words which would hopefully shut those ash bashers up... and if you have a problem to deal to it with me.... Aishwarya Rai is talented in more ways than one, she is only targetted heavily by the media for a number of reasons such that she has gone places where Bollywood "heros" like Ambitahb Bachchan and Shahrukhan (aka the male dominancy of bollywood) havnt been, and its more a jealousy thing that an Indian woman has gone further than an Indian man, another reason why she is targetted so much is because she litterally is perfection in heels, its hard for ppl to accept that someone so good looking could be so good at acting, her roles from 1997 have proved many times over that she has the acting talent to back up her flawless looks, she is good when she always chooses challenging roles, i just dont see why the Indian media is so harsh on her when it should be doing somethign good for her, because end of the day not only is she representing herself but she carries herself as an Indian and is very true to her roots, i know she will do well for years to come so provoked should be an interesting movie to watch much liek her upcoming features. Keep it up Aishwarya!!!

How can I buy the movie or when does it come out in theaters

Sabeshan I do have a problem and I am asking you to try to debate me. The only problem is that you people fail to realise the importance of her role IN THIS FILM. The film is based on a lie. Kirinjit was just a pawn in hugh feminist propaganda hype. And Ash is just doing what will further their very SAD and dated ideologies. Feminist like Ash who fall for the rubbish and just collect the money do deserve all the critisism they get. She is pretty and talented. Bright with an ability to think beyond herself, I think not. ok Sanj my reply is as follows: Ur issue is a point that can be disputed time and time again, this is just as bad as asking "is the glass half full or half empty" its an issue that has come along way regardless of mass "propaganda". the film is purely based on the ideas that emerged out of the event its purely a cinematic representation based on the events. I realise ur point but its just i dont see the validity of it becuase you can over analyse any role a character takes. For example in Chokher Bali, she plays the widdow in struggling for freedom, in the process she has an affair with a married man, that doesnt necessarily mean Ash herself believes having an affair is ok.We just have to realies that Actors are puppets to tell a particular story of an idea, not physical substitues. :)

i have watched this film and it is so emotionally brilliant. you feel for her and you feel like what is happening to Aishwariya is happening to you.best film i have ever watched

Subhana i fully agree with you, the emotional charge this movie has is off the charts, every scene is handled so well and that you actually feel her pain. Possibly by far her best performance. :)
