Most people thought the series got lame midway through the sequel to the original film, but somehow, Rogue Pictures and Universal Studios Home Entertainment have been able to rationalize the production of a fifth installment of the American Pie franchise.

Then again, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. The fourth installment, American Pie Presents: Band Camp, a straight to DVD release, sold over two million copies since its release in 2005.

I tried to watch Band Camp, but quickly became frustrated at the cliche dialogue and contrived scenarios. Still, in the end sex still sells, and these films have enough teen sex appeal to make the old Animal House franchise blush. Installment No. 5, also a straight to DVD release, promises to have more of the same.

Scheduled for release in 2007, American Pie 5: The Naked Mile will focus on Adam Stifler, the cousin of Matt and Steve. Though Adam initially comes off as the antithesis of his sexually charged cousins, peer pressure starts to change his demeanor, with his pals coaxing him into helping host the college 'Naked Mile', a naked-run across the college campus.

Fascinating plot huh? OK, maybe not. But I'm sure there will be a few good laughs and plenty of T&A.
