Paris Hilton is known for stirring things up.
There was the sex tape scandal, which launched her from hotel heiress to daily download. And let us not forget the time that her T-Mobile Sidekick was hacked -- leaking numbers of famous celebrities (like Christina Aguilera and Vin Diesel) into the hands of anyone who was capable of finding them on an internet search. There was also the incident with Haylie Duff. Paris and Haylie, older sister to Disney's Lizzie McGuire, both recorded versions of the song "Screwed" for upcoming solo albums. In typical Paris Hilton fashion, her song made its way onto the internet.
Paris Hilton has become synonymous with drama, causing a lot of eye-rolling to occur when her name is mentioned.
But there's one thing you can't deny: her latest single, Stars Are Blind is incredibly catchy. It's ripping through Top 40 radio. During the third week in July, it was sitting at No. 18 on Billboard's Top 100 chart. The song is winning the hearts of many teenage girls. With lyrics like: "I could be your confidant/Just one of your girlfriends/But I know that love's what you want/If tomorrow the world ends/Why shouldn't we be with the one we really love?/Now tell me who have you been dreaming of/At night at home?" how could it not?
And then there's the equally sugary-pop chorus: "Even though the gods are crazy/Even though the stars are blind/If you show me real love baby/I'll show you mine."
High school girls are going to take that as showing real love to their puppy-dog love sweethearts, but the guys who salivate over the heiress are hoping Paris means she'll show something else.
Knowing Hilton, the guys are probably right on that one.
The self-titled album has an Aug. 22 release date and is coming out on Warner Brothers, even though Hilton's original idea was to release "Paris Is Burning" on her own Heiress Records. |
