Barrett was Pink Floyd's "Crazy Diamond"

By now, everyone who cares about classic rock has heard about the passing of Pink Floyd co-founder Roger "Syd" Barrett. He passed away earlier this week at the age of 60 after battling diabetes as well as the mental demons that were partially responsible for his exit from the group in 1968.

Here's an interesting little piece of trivia regarding Barrett's influence on Pink Floyd. Allegedly, Barrett's replacement, Roger Waters, and the rest of the band put together the album Wish You Were Here as a tribute to the troubled musician. The album, of course, included classics such as Wish you were Here and Shine on You Crazy Diamond. In retrospect, its easy to see how this Album reflected Barrett's troubles.

It is also interesting to note that while Syd Barrett was a very influencial musician, who inspired artists such as David Bowie, he was not a part of the band when they put together their most famous albums, Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall.
