Will Smith Returns to His Roots - Fails to Inspire Parade Participants

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith, recently returned to his native Philadelphia to lead a march against inner city violence.

The television, movie and rap star led a group of 600 people dressed in white to symbolize good, peace and neighborhood unity in a section of Southwest Philadelphia. The area of Kingsessing, part of the City's 12th Police District, is considered one of the most violent districts in the city. Ninety-three people have been shot in the first half of the year alone, a ratio that puts the area as a location where a shooting occurs literally every other day.

Though Smith participated in the full 10 block parade, many bemoaned his silence regarding the issues at hand, especially his failure to speak to people along the parade route. Though many parents hoped Smith would give youngsters gathered along the scene some words of wisdom regarding the issue of violence, Smith choose to participate silently.

The former television prince also failed to address reporters who sought some insight from him regarding ways to put an end to the cycle of violence that plagues Black America in virtually every large city, from Philadelphia to Los Angeles as well as every city in between.
