The Donald Battles Rosie and An Age Discrimination Suit

Permalink | Comments (6) | RSS

When it comes to publicity, Donald Trump is a master at creating opportunities. However, many opportunities paint him in a powerfully negative light.

First up, with finalists on Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" limited only to people from age 21 to 41, the real estate mogul has been named in an age discrimination suit by a rejected applicant for the show. Richard J. Hewett, an aging 49 year old when he was rejected back in July of 2005, is suing the Donald, Trump Organization Inc., Trump Productions, the show's producer Mark Burnett and Mark Burnett Productions for violation of the federal age discrimination law. Hewett, a New Hampshire resident, filed his claim last week in U.S. District Court, seeking unspecified damages.

Hewett insisted that the people who watch the show get the impression that to work for a big company like that of the Donald Trump Organization you have to be young. Spokesmen for the show countered with the claim that very few older people apply to be on the show. They also stated that they would gladly cast those that were older if such people applied and the folks at Trump Productions actually "liked" the applicants.

The suit comes at a time when Trump has been trading verbal volleys with talk show hostess Rosie O'Donnell. It began with the Donald's non-disciplinary action in the Miss America fiasco that seemed to be nothing more than a publicity stunt and O'Donnell's calling Trump out for his actions. The barbs then quickly escalated - among the alleged comments had Trump calling O'Donnell a "big, fat pig" and a "bully" and O'Donnell countering with calling the Donald a "comb over bunny" and posting writings on her blog that implied Trump was a "pimp."

In the land of opportunity and lawsuit haven, Trump has also announced his intention to file suit against O'Donnell in the matter.

I liked Donald better when he was a quiet real estate mogul. His Verbal Tyrants and Uncontrolled Depression is being aimed towards people surrounding him, ie: Martha, the black girl on the previous apprentice and currently Rosie. All of them don't wear see through shirts, or starred in Porn Shots, like his new 3rd Wife. When I attended a dinner and Trump's Lawyer friend who was also on the apprentice, he spoke and he also blasted the black girl, Omaroso, for no reason. It's so embarrassing and appalling for the Trump's. I can't see how he thinks this is good ?

Look at this! All women saying poor old Rosie. Rosie use to be a good person now she is bitter at the world and using "The View" to take shots at people. First she took shots at Kelly Ripa about her comment to Clay Aiken and for no reason had to make it a gay issue. Rosie had no idea that Kelly in the past put her hand over Regis' mouth so you can't use that excuse. For the record I am not a Kelly fan at all. Then Donald Trump right or wrong gave someone a 2nd chance (god forbid) and she sees it as her opportunity to take a shot at him. Rosie couldn't leave it at her opinion she had to start taking shots at his past and personal life. Now all you guys on jumping on the bandwagon saying poor old Rosie. She is getting back all the crap she has pulled on others. I use to be a Rosie fan until she went from being positive and funny to just out negative. Try to stay unbias otherwise you are all being hippocrates.

the thing I don't get is -- would a "normal" comedian go to this extent over a "joke" ? I don't know of anyone that - for the sakes of a "joke" would willingly want to want to risk a lawsuit with Donald Trump -which could possibly be quite quite expensive. So it seems to me that she is really no longer a comic now is she ?? but some kind of self stylalize crusader of some sort. Personally I think she has become embittered somewhere along the line but know that could be a fine line to distinguish due to her style of comedy. Still I maintain that it is not "normal" to hold your line on only a "joke" when it could do this much harm to you. A simple apology or inside way to work it out seems to be much more rational. If this goes too far the Donald could press it further than she expected, and perhaps totally ruin her. She is a pipsqueak financially in comparison to him, and she should realize she is way out of her league. If she continues I would wonder if there really isn't something wrong with her as the Donald has formulated.
