When it comes to publicity, Donald Trump is a master at creating opportunities. However, many opportunities paint him in a powerfully negative light.
First up, with finalists on Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" limited only to people from age 21 to 41, the real estate mogul has been named in an age discrimination suit by a rejected applicant for the show. Richard J. Hewett, an aging 49 year old when he was rejected back in July of 2005, is suing the Donald, Trump Organization Inc., Trump Productions, the show's producer Mark Burnett and Mark Burnett Productions for violation of the federal age discrimination law. Hewett, a New Hampshire resident, filed his claim last week in U.S. District Court, seeking unspecified damages.
Hewett insisted that the people who watch the show get the impression that to work for a big company like that of the Donald Trump Organization you have to be young. Spokesmen for the show countered with the claim that very few older people apply to be on the show. They also stated that they would gladly cast those that were older if such people applied and the folks at Trump Productions actually "liked" the applicants.
The suit comes at a time when Trump has been trading verbal volleys with talk show hostess Rosie O'Donnell. It began with the Donald's non-disciplinary action in the Miss America fiasco that seemed to be nothing more than a publicity stunt and O'Donnell's calling Trump out for his actions. The barbs then quickly escalated - among the alleged comments had Trump calling O'Donnell a "big, fat pig" and a "bully" and O'Donnell countering with calling the Donald a "comb over bunny" and posting writings on her blog that implied Trump was a "pimp."
In the land of opportunity and lawsuit haven, Trump has also announced his intention to file suit against O'Donnell in the matter. |
