It is a different world today obviously. Having a child out of wedlock is no longer considered the same as it was fifty years ago.
But still, when it comes to New England QB Tom Brady, the football star is justly taking some major hits for the revelation his former girlfriend is pregnant with his child. Critical to the issue is that Brady has moved on to date yet another, a Brazilian super model, so marrying the mother of his baby, Bridget Moynahan, does not seem to be in the picture.
Brady has brought New England a pile of recognition, including three Super bowl trophies. Moreover, the man with the gifted arm was known for being nearly flawless under pressure, a person who always did the right things on the field and said the right things in the interview room. In the locker room, he was just one of the guys, able to blend in even while leading his team.
But then this season the QB threw a last minute interception in the conference finals, and instead of one more famous comeback for the Patriots leader, the Indianapolis Colts went on to victory and to gather this year's coveted Super Bowl title. Fans were disappointed and his reputation a bit tarnished.
But now this. Fans are asking if this situation had anything to do with his performance in that game. One blogger writes, "Winning three Super Bowls is an accomplishment. Knocking up your girlfriend is a problem that's ancient and universal. It doesn't require special attention."
Another blogger insists that Moynahan is the type of young girl men marry and settle down with while gallivanting with models is not the behavior for daddies. And what of the fact that Brady is white - if he were black would not the criticism of having a child out of wedlock be even harsher.
The man for doing the right thing has a big decision in front of him. All of his fans expect him to do what he has always done, the right thing.
The problem is that no one can agree on just what the right thing is today. |
