17-year-old Daniel Radcliffe, more familiarly recognized as Harry Potter, turned heads earlier this week in London when he pulled out his wand in an unexpected way and got nude before a theater audience.
Yes, our little Harry's come along way.
On Tuesday, Radcliffe took to the stage at the at the Gielgud Theatre for the opening performance of Peter Shaffer's "Equus." He plays a disturbed stable boy who harms horses, as part of his obsession, in order to rile people up. Radcliff admittedly took the role with the same intentions as his character - to stir people's perceptions of him.
On stage, Radcliffe smokes, simulates sex, and strips nude. Apparently Radcliffe is getting what he wanted, as far as a different kind of attention; before the play ever opened, it sold $3.1 million in advance sales. It has been reported that Harry Potter fans have been swarming the theatre to see Radcliffe nightly. Tickets range from about $38 to $100.
Despite his attempts to shed the guise of his childhood role, Radcliffe stars again in the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which comes out July 13. Radcliffe has also agreed to start filming the sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," in June, after he's done with his role in "Equus." |
