Fans reportedly traveled from near and far, even sleeping on the sidewalk for a chance to see the taping of Bob Barker's final "Price is Right." The man who made the phrase "come on down" famous was taping his final show that will air Friday, June 15th.
The gregarious and talented Barker is a television icon having hosted the game show for an extraordinary 35 years. For the final show, the well-known host drew folks from as far away as Alberta, Canada.
Each episode of the show features roughly twelve contestants competing for a number of prizes, some of exceptional value. Since the seating capacity is just 325, fans on the show have a one in twenty-seven chance of being selected to compete for the prizes.
The show's lengthy run has spawned many show traditions. The kiss on the cheek from female contestants, military personnel wear the uniforms, and the come on down phrase are all trademarks of the Barker show.
The silver-haired host also ends his show touting his public cause. "Have your pets spayed and neutered," he announces.
