The disastrous mix up by employees at Cedars-Sinai hospital that injured three newborns has resulted in a citation being issued. The hospital was cited for its failure to adhere to established policies and procedures, thereby creating risk of harm for all patients being treated there.
Commentary; The medical mix up has received even greater publicity due to the fact that two of the infants involved were the newborn twins of actor Dennis Quaid. The formal reprimand noted that hospital staff and nurses failed to properly check labels before administering drugs to patients and to maintain proper records of the medications being used. The Quaid twins were initially in intensive care after the incident but are now said to be recovering at home. The hospital could also be subject to fines for its failures.
