Whether or not (presumably) former Major League pitcher Roger Clemens actually partook of performance-enhancing drugs or not, he certainly doesn't need any help in his media performances of the past few weeks. The same night his much-ballyhooed, high-attitude interview on "60 Minutes" aired, Clemens filed suit in Harris County (Texas) District federal court against his main accuser in the Mitchell Report, trainer Brian McNamee, charging 15 counts of defamation.
(Incidentally, if you missed "60 Minutes," here's a quasi-mysterious YouTubed dress rehearsal by "The Rocket.")
Clemens v. McNamee lists as complaint the 15 previously mentioned counts detailing the pair's mutual friendship with hypodermic needles and controversial substances, all of which are labeled "absolutely false and defamatory."
The brief also details Clemens' career, including kudos for his 20-strikeout performance (and comparisons to Catfish Hunter), the "twilight of his career" remark which led to his departure from the Boston Red Sox, and all his Cy Young Awards. More interesting are the details regarding Clemens and McNamee's relationship when with the Red Sox, one that perhaps was one day close enough to have earned the "emotional" phone call rumor also worked through the media.
Who else can't wait for the January 16th Congressional hearing involving both men?
