An innovative pricing concept from Radiohead may be part of the reason the group now has the number one ranked selling album on the charts. The album "In Rainbows," was first made available three months ago as a digital download but the album did not reach number one until the CD version became available at record shops and other retailers.
Commentary: The album was the first in four years from the legendary British rock act. The innovative step taken by the group involved making the digital download version available for whatever price fans chose to pay. However, the album was limited to 122,000 copies sold in the United States, a far cry from the group's "Hail to the Thief" release in 2003. That album topped 300,000 in sales during its first week. |
