John Stewart, Singer, Songwriter is Dead

Singer and songwriter John Stewart died of a stroke on Saturday at a San Diego Hospital. A member of the immensely popular Kingston Trio, Stewart also recorded more than 40 albums of his own.

Commentary, Stewart, 68, was best known for "Daydream Believer," a song he penned for the made for television-band the Monkees. Stewart also had a Top 10 hit in 1979 with "Gold." The singer joined the Kingston Trio, one of the world's most popular performers at the time, in 1961 and remained with the group until 1967. Stewart also penned "Runaway Train" for Rosanne Cash, a huge country hit in 1988.
