Seemingly in trouble as often as Britney Spears, O.J. Simpson, was released from jail yesterday but not until he had received a stern lecture from the presiding judge and having his bail doubled. To his credit, Simpson at least looked the part of a chastened man.

Commentary: In compelling language the judge called Simpson arrogant or ignorant or both for violating his bail conditions by contacting a co-defendant in his recent robbery and kidnapping case. Despite bail being doubled, Simpson posted bond ($37,500 in cash) and was released about 11:00 p.m. Pacific time. Simpson left the detention center without speaking to the horde of media waiting outside.
