Military Authorities Clear US Army Officer

Permalink | Comments (0) | RSS

The sordid tale of Abu Ghraib has finally concluded with the news that the only the only US army officer to face charges in abuse scandal was cleared of wrongdoing by the US military authorities. The officer, Lt-Col Steven Jordan, was the man in charge of the prison's interrogation unit at the time that the troubling pictures of US soldiers abusing prisoners were taken.

Commentary: Jordan had already been cleared of any mistreatment charges back in August. However, he had been convicted of disobeying orders in regards to the inquiry, a result of sending e-mails to others potentially facing charges. The latest news means that even the disobeying orders charge has now been thrown out as well. The end result of the prisoner abuse scandal that cost America severely around the world left 11 lower-ranking soldiers suffering consequences but no officers.
