Mitt Romney Win Throws GOP Race Wide Open

Taking advantage of name recognition and family connections, Mitt Romney earned a decisive victory in the Michigan Republican primary Tuesday. The win by the former Massachusetts governor, following two second place finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire, turned the Republican race for the nomination into a four man scramble.
Commentary: Romney came away with 39% of the vote while John McCain took second with 30% and Mike Huckabee third with 16%. After three caucuses/primaries, each of the men has won one state. Romney appeared to take advantage of his native son status. Romney's father was a three-term governor in Michigan and also served as chairman of American Motors Corporation. Meanwhile, former front-runner Rudy Giuliani remains very popular in national polls, leading many to think he will also rise an Super Tuesday, February 5th. |
