New Hampshire over the Hill(ary)?

Permalink | Comments (0) | RSS

With one day left before folks vote in the New Hampshire primary, nothing is going Hillary Clinton's way. The news media are all over a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby public opinion poll indicating that Barack Obama "rockets past Clinton," "hold[ing] a clear lead," and/or "leap[ing] over Clinton," depending on which news bookmark you click.

Suffice to say, most pollsters have Clinton with a ten-percentage point deficit behind new New Hampshire Democratic Party front-runner Obama.

Reportedly, Mrs. Clinton's ol' ace in the hole, former president/current hubby Bill Clinton isn't working out all that great in the Granite State, precipitator of his winning presidential campaign in 1992.

Not forgetting that Dennis Kucinich pretty much backed Obama in a sort of lesser-of-two-evils choice before Iowa, former senator Bill Bradley, who made a pretty decent run himself at the Democratic Party nomination back in 2000, put in his endorsement for Obama, "Because of his enormous appeal to Americans of all ages and backgrounds, Obama is the candidate best positioned to win in November. ... His movement for change could create a new era of American politics - truly a new American story."

And perhaps worst of all, the Republican candidates are now talking about going "head to head" in the final two with - you guessed it - Obama.

Poor Hillary. Once twice as popular as the candidate in the place position, she's now looking at the very real possibility of her campaign's virtual extinction after Super Tuesday. I wonder if she'd accept the vice-president spot?
