While the Writers Guild strike continues, the coveted list of nominees for this year's Oscars is to be unveiled later today in Los Angeles. Recent Golden Globe winners "Sweeney Todd" and "Atonement" are expected to be in the mix for the best picture award.
Commentary: Though there has been no determination as to how the strike will impact the Oscars, the work stoppage did cause the cancellation of the Golden Globes award show. Whether or not the 80th Academy Awards ceremony set for the 24th of February will be reduced to a news conference remains to be seen. The belief is that the Academy has a back-up plan for the show should the writers strike continue. Jon Stewart is to be the host. |
