Commentary: While "Atonement" was nominated for best picture lead actor James McAvoy was somehow bypassed as was Joe Wright for best director. That has most folks believing that "Atonement" stands little chance of winning best picture. The big winner was "There Will Be Blood" with eight nominations including best picture. Experts considered the movie immensely flawed. The Coen brothers' "No Country for Old Men" also received eight nominations though most thought rightly so while "Michael Clayton" was also another major surprise for best picture.
