Pakistan has postponed Parlimentary elections until February 18 due to the turmoil following the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Elections had originally been scheduled for January 8th but ransacked election offices must be repaired and new ballots printed.
Commentary: As the elections were postponed, the speculation continued regarding the assasination. Sources are now reporting that Bhutto had a document accusing the government of a plan to rig the vote. The document alleged the government planned to tamper with ballots, intimidate opposition candidates and use voting equipment to monitor the communications of the opposition party. The violence raging across the nation has claimed 58 lives and has been responsible for more than $200 million in damages.
