Screen Actors Guild Awards Held Despite Strike

Though the writers' strike put the kibosh on the Golden Globes and threatens to do likewise for the Oscars, thanks to a waiver from the writers the Screen Actors Guild awards were held last night. The 14th annual recognition show of course features only those that grace the screen and by passes directors, sound folks, et al.
Commentary: Daniel Day-Lewis won the best male actor award for "There Will Be Blood" and took time to express his respect for Heath Ledger. Julie Christie, 66, took the top female honor for the extremely moving "Away from Her." Both now loom as the front-runners at the famed Oscars. And in a great story Ruby Dee, 82 years young, won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for American Gangster. She played Mama Lucas in the film.
