The Writers Guild of America strike, now ten weeks in duration, has forced the cancellation of the Golden Globe Awards ceremony scheduled for Jan. 13. With little progress to report, the strike may ultimately threaten Hollywood's biggest party, The Oscars.
Commentary: The WGA had indicated writers would picket at the Golden Globes if NBC were to go ahead with the ceremony. Following that announcement, the Screen Actors Guild announced they would not cross those picket lines. With no stars being present to receive their awards, NBC subsequently bailed out. Though it is hard to imagine that the strike could put a stop to the 80th Annual Academy Awards but that specter now looms. |
