On Monday, while still confined to her padded room at a UCLA hospital, Britney Spears appeared to make an attempt to wrest control of her personal finances from her father. Lawyer Adam Streisand, stating he had been contacted by Spears over the weekend, attempted to convince a judge on Monday to turn the singer's finances over to him.
Commentary: A skeptical judge declined to make the change. The attorney insisted that the singer and her father have been estranged for some time and that his appointment as conservator was adding to the troubled pop star's distress. The Judge, Reva Goetz, refused the request and extended James Spears' control over his daughter's estate, worth an estimated $40 million, until a hearing scheduled for Feb. 14.
