Super Tuesday: Notes on the Republican race

Permalink | Comments (0) | RSS

For those Americans who can still concentrate after Super Sunday XLII (MPR is having a hard time of it), the top news story is Super Tuesday. Results, analysis and, as they say, hijinks ensue.

On the Republican side, John McCain took most states up for grabs. Together with the key endorsement from politico Sylvester Stallone, McCain can surely attribute his victories to the single greatest quote uttered on the campaign trail thus far by far, on Monday declaring, "I assume that I will get the nomination of the party." Gotta love the humility.

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney showed he is fully capable of carrying the Mormon vote for the Republican Party come general election time. Romney also took home state Massachusetts; clearly, the best thing for a Romney presidential nomination, long-term speaking, would be to be reincarnated as a Democrat: They love those over-intellectual soundbite-dodging guys with tricky names who get stomped in the final stage.

Ordained Southern Baptist minister Mike Huckabee got strong support from a couple of states which, since we here at MPR'd like to avoid making any rash generalizations vis-à-vis demographics, we'll say begin with the letter 'A': Alabama and Arkansas.

And Cool McCain puts the campaign on cruise control...
